Red Crabs Wash Up At Beaches in Orange County California

We were at the beach in Corona Del Mar today and saw all these red tuna crabs on the beach.

Some sources call these tiny crustaceans squat lobster.  Other sources call them Pleuroncodes planipes.

Update: I was just down at Newport Harbor this afternoon and in some places there are thousands of these crabs / squat lobster alive and swimming around.
